Sunderland Royal Hospital Children’s Unit
The Children’s Foundation has recently launched an appeal to provide the Sunderland Royal Hospital Children’s Unit with 3D Portable Pain Distraction Units.
The 3D Vpods use sensory software designed to distract children from pain during treatment and procedures. The software is interactive allowing the children to control the images using their senses, comforting them during pre-treatment, treatment, examination and rehabilitation.
Benefits to the children:
• Reduces stress
• Encourages relaxation
• Reduces boredom
• Provides distraction from clinical treatments.
Staff and parents also benefit from these facilities as the units provide support to children in dealing with physical and emotional difficulties, whilst in hospital and undergoing treatment.
We have had so many positive comments from professionals and parents alike, which have benefited from this equipment in the Great North Children’s Hospital, RVI, Newcastle upon Tyne.
- Ruth Wiley: Rheumatology Specialist Nurse, Royal Victoria Hospital Newcastle. “We used less gas and air than expected during a painful treatment – I was very impressed.
- “The experience was brill…our child was so distracted from what was being carried out on her.” Parents of child aged 10
We will be arranging fundraising events and supporting fundraising groups in the Sunderland area, over the next 6 months to raise £4,000 towards the cost of this equipment.
