The Entrepreneurs Forum Charity Ball

Charitable entrepreneurs proved a real driving force for fundraising as they donated a staggering £100,000 in a single night to boost the health of children across the North East.

The impressive total in aid of The Children’s Foundation was the highest ever raised by the Entrepreneurs’ Forum’s annual charity ball, which this year took on a glitzy and glamorous Monte Carlo Formula One theme.

More than 300 of the region’s business people and their guests gathered for the popular event, which was held for the sixth time at the Hilton Hotel in Gateshead.

And their generosity throughout the evening – bidding for auction prizes and taking part in a series of other racing themed games – led to the record breaking figure.

It took the total raised by the Forum’s charity balls over the past six years to more than £400,000 with Maggie’s North East Cancer Caring Centre, Grace House in Sunderland, The Percy  Hedley Foundation, St Oswalds Hospice in Gosforth and Macmillan Cancer Support having benefited on previous occasions.

Professor Stephen Singleton, chairman of The Children’s Foundation, said the money raised would be vital to the organisation’s mental health and regional small grants projects.

He said: ‘On behalf of The Children’s Foundation, I would like to say a huge thank you to the Entrepreneurs’ Forum for a magnificent evening of fundraising.

‘To raise more than £100,000 in one evening is quite simply extraordinary and I extend my thanks to all the people who donated auction prizes, all the guests who dug deep into their pockets and all the volunteers and staff who helped pull the event together.

‘This money will really make a difference to the health and wellbeing of children here in the North East.’

Compere Mark Peters oversaw the money spinning charity auction, while there was musical entertainment from pop-rock band The Lightyears.

Forum chief executive Carole Beverley said: ‘Altruism is a common thread flowing through the Forum and I am overwhelmed by the exceptional generosity of many of our members and their guests this year in helping us to raise this substantial amount for a very worthy charity.

‘I’d like to thank all those who came to support this exciting event. The total raised is really staggering and we are thrilled to think anout the positive impact it will have on the lives of so many children here in the North East.’
