The Children’s Foundation’s newest appeal is the Great North Baton Challenge which is a major appeal to provide world-class facilites for the new Great North Children’s Hospital. Due to be completed in 2010, this landmark development, based on the site of the RVI, will be a centre for excellence in children’s healthcare for the region, similar to Great Ormond Street in London.

The appeal draws on the success of Team GB in the Beijing Olympics.

The Children’s Foundation have issued five official fundraising ‘batons’ to a school, business, health professional, community representitive and sporting individual The idea is to raise money within one month of holding the baton before passing it on to a colleague or similar organisation when the month is up.

The education baton in particular has been a huge success and there are now two batons being passed between schools around the North East.
