Abseil October 2013

Following on from the success of our March Abseil, another 20 brave supporters will once again abseil from the Dental Hospital on Sunday 27th October to raise money for children in our region.

This time however, they will be accompanied by The Clown Doctors!

The Children’s Foundation proudly supports the Clown Doctors mission in the Great North Children’s Hospital to relieve children of fear and insecurities and to empower the children to understand and come to terms with their situation at a traumatic time in their lives. The work of the Clown Doctors has been welcomed onto the wards by staff, parents and patients alike.

By taking the 200ft plunge, not only will you be helping to raise awareness and funds for the Clown Doctors, but many of The Children’s Foundation’s projects will also benefit.

Our flagship project Whoops! Child safety looks at accident prevention in and around the home, offering ‘Child and Baby Lifesaving’ courses, which highlight potential dangers and teach immediate first aid solutions. This course gives new parents the confidence to be able to act quickly in an emergency situation, and be aware of the everyday dangers than can be avoided.

The Children’s Foundation’s ‘Regional Small Grants’ programme will also benefit from the money raised from the abseil. Last year alone, the programme awarded £13,612 to 14 community projects across the North East. This meant that 1,236 children of all ages and abilities benefitted from new sports equipment, arts and craft materials and activities to develop self confidence and encourage fitness and healthy eating.

Jonathan Clegg, Fundraising Assistant for The Children’s Foundation said, “I absolutely loved taking part in the abseil in March, I am terrified of heights, but it was an exciting experience! Knowing the money I raised will go to help children all across the North East helped me face my fear!”
