Small company, BIG impact. SOS Group Ltd win at the North East Charity Awards
It was an honour for us to be able to attend the North East Charity Awards to celebrate the achievements of the regions charities as well as their supporters. The ceremony was held at Gosforth Marriott Hotel and we are delighted to announce that our corporate supporter SOS Group Ltd won the award for Outstanding Charity Support – Small to Medium companies.
The Children’s Foundation is immensely proud of SOS for winning the award and to find out why SOS Group Ltd is so special to us here’s our nomination for the awards:
SOS first began to support to The Children’s Foundation back in 2014 when they became the headline sponsor for Run Geordie Run (RGR). The bond was formed after company director, Andrew, heard Mark Allison speak about his fundraising, was inspired and wondered why they hadn’t been a part of the journey sooner.
As part of his Round-the-world challenge Mark needed to gain a large amount of financial support in terms of corporate sponsorship and Mark would not have been able to complete the latest leg of his challenge, a 2,685 mile run from Lisbon to Belgrade, without the financial support from SOS Group. The company Director, Andrew Skelton, even went as far as planning to join the support team to assist Mark when he was out in Europe. Andrew trained with Mark in the months leading up to the run, but due to injury Andrew was unable to complete his support team duties. This was very disappointing for Andrew as we all knew that going out to support Mark meant a great deal to him. Their financial support extends further than the support given to RGR. SOS Group paid for a team of runners to take part in the Great North Run to help raise even more funds for The Children’s Foundation. Members of staff from SOS are always present at our fundraising events and always the first to put their hands in their pockets for the raffle.
SOS Group also supports The Children’s Foundation with a lot of in-kind support. When they noticed that our office printer was out of date and had seen better days they donated a brand new state of the art printer/photocopier. This has made office life so much easier for us. We are able to be much more productive, send out more newsletters and are able to produce higher quality marketing tools. We would never have been able to afford to buy a printer of that calibre ourselves.
The partnership between SOS group and The Children’s Foundation is driven by the directors of SOS. They always want to engage with our projects and beneficiaries and are always looking to see what they can do next. For a number of years SOS group have donated Easter eggs and Bunnies to be handed out to children in the Great North Children’s Hospital (GNCH). Last year SOS Director, Andrew Skelton even accompanied the Clown Drs (a project supported by The Children’s Foundation) round the GNCH to hand out Easter Eggs himself to children on the wards.
SOS Group goes above and beyond in terms of support to The Children’s Foundation. Where some organisations stop at financial support, this is where SOS group begin. They have become ambassadors for the charity and are so motivated and passionate for the cause. The team are extremely approachable, always willing to hear our ideas and willing to consider our requests.
SOS Group is a small local business making a huge impact on their local community. On the face of it they supply businesses with printers, copiers, MFDs, Document Management Solutions and support services, but rooted into their corporation is a strong passion and motivation to do what they can to help those who need it most.
