intu Eldon Square’s popular gift wrapping service has been launched by much-loved Geordie actress Charlie Hardwick – currently starring as the Spirit of the Tyne in this year’s pantomime at Newcastle Theatre Royal.
Charlie took time out of her hectic schedule, performing in Dick Whittington, to launch the gift wrapping promotion which is based between John Lewis and Boots in the city centre’s shopping mall.
Busy shoppers can visit the gift wrapping stand and have their presents beautifully wrapped by nimble fingered volunteers from The Children’s Foundation, in return for a donation to the charity that aims to improve the lives of children here in the North East.
Charlie, who is enjoying her first ever panto appearance in the North East after starring in Emmerdale for the last twelve years, is delighted to be on home turf for Christmas.
“I’m having so much fun at Newcastle Theatre Royal with my new panto family, and although my free time will be extremely limited during the panto season and beyond – as we run until 17 January 2016 – I will be sleeping in my own bed every night and enjoying celebrating the festive season here in the North East with my family and friends.
“We only have two days off on the run up to Christmas so I will definitely be nipping into intu Eldon Square to buy my gifts and take them straight to the Children’s Foundation stand to get beautified as their volunteer wrappers do such a good job! If I wanted my gifts to look as professional as that – I would need a magic wand! Oh wait a minute – I’ve just realized I do have one of those – but there again, it only works on the stage!”
Libby Nolan, Fundraising Manager at The Children’s Foundation, commented:
“It was so great to have Charlie to officially launch our gift wrapping stand – she is such a popular lady, the public all love her! This year we will be working hard to try to improve upon last year’s fund raising total, which was over £3,000. We are very grateful for the continued support of intu Eldon Square, who for the last 7 years has created a bespoke festive gift-wrapping area that has resulted in increased donations year on year. We’ve also had continued support from retailers and the general public with both donations of gift-wrap and volunteer time. We’d also like to thank supporters Leathers LLP who have been able to come on board for the third year running sponsoring gift wrapping products, as well as volunteering to help with gift wrapping!”
Joan Taylor, Marketing Manager at intu Eldon Square, commented:
“We’d like to thank Charlie for being such a star and taking time out to launch the gift wrapping promotion, which is always such a huge success and a great fundraiser for The Children’s Foundation. At this special time of giving, intu Eldon Square is delighted to be able to help both our shoppers and a very worthwhile cause indeed!”
