Businesses from across the North East came together to show off their talents at The Children's Foundation Great North Idol 2009.

The evening held on 5th March at the Black Swan in Newcastle was supported by Lloyds TSB's Corporate Markets.

The night saw several of the North East's top companies giving performances: Northumbrian Water, TyneMet College, Dickinson Dees, Ryder Architecture and B Group all gave musical performances before the bands were then judged by an X-Factor style panel. Judges included Lynn Spencer former radio and television presenter, Gerald Krasner partner at Begbies Traynor, Kelly Scott from Century Radio's Breakfast Show, Andrew Dixon chief executive of NGI and night was  compered by Century's Lisa Shaw. At the end of the night the audience were able to vote for their favourite act and Ryder Architecture took away the Great North Idol 2009 crown.

A silent auction, raffle and 'Guitar Hero' contest all contributed to an successful evening and a wonderful £4000 raised!

The success of the event has led The Children's Foundation to plan a yearly return of the competition and will be looking for new entrants later in the year.
