Our popular Stock Market Challenge event took place again at Newcastle Marriott Gosforth Park Hotel on Thursday 29th May 2008. Companies from around the North East battled it out in a fantasy Stock Market Challenge and raised £3000 for The Children's Foundation.

This year 19 teams from local companies took part including Newcastle Building Society, Trend International, Knight Frank LLP, RMT, Brewin Dolphin, Ward Hadaway, Dickinson Dees, RHK and HSBC.

At this unique corporate fundraising event, guests can buy and sell shares over the course of a virtual week of trading in a specifically designed London Stock Exchange set. There was two hours of stock dealing, made as realistic as possible with TV screens, monitors, phones rinigng, shouting and intense media specualtion. The team with the highest value portfolio was declared the winners at the end of the evening and presented with champagne and the obligatory red braces.

The winners this year were The Junk Bond Junkies, also known as Newcastle Building Society with an amazing portfolio size of £666,600 after an initial investment of just £10,000. Second place were Trend International with a fantastic portfolio size of £414,600, and in third place were the Might Morphin Flower Arrangers - headed up by The Children's Foundation's Finance Director with an portfolio of £298, 500 - an impressive improvement on last years dissapointing last place!
