Workmates’ 100-mile challenge is just the warm up

SIX workmates have cycled 100 miles over two days – and that’s just part of their training for a bigger challenge still to come.

The team from Interserve, a support services and construction group, completed the Durham Big Ride’s 50-mile Beast route, which starts and ends in Durham City, on Saturday (April 26) and again on Sunday.

The riders were training for their More Pain for Your Pound challenge, which will see them and 62 colleagues pedal from London to Paris in late May, in the hope of raising £10,000 for The Children’s Foundation.

Rob Soulsby, one of the team, said: “The Durham Beast was definitely a good way to warm up to our London to Paris cycle.

“Sunday was wet to say the least. We cycled just under 100 miles over the two days and climbed 7,400ft in fog, driving rain and wind.

“The team resembled drowned rats at the finish on Sunday, but everyone agreed it was a great practice and we now look forward to the cycle to Paris.”

That challenge, over 265 miles, will take three days, from May 22 to 24. To sponsor the team, visit virginmoneygiving.com/team/InterserveNE2
