Smoking - 'Only Fools Smoke'
Smoking rates in the North East are the highest in the UK with children 15% more likely to smoke in this region than anywhere else in the country

We aim to tackle this problem in two ways, firstly by offering financial support through our Regional Small Grants programme to community groups that educate parents and carers on the risks of passive smoking and highlight to children the health risk associated with this addiction. Secondly, by raising funds for our 'Only Fools Smoke' Project to deliver messages to children in schools about smoking
The 'Only Fools Smoke' project has developed from the Clown Doctors delivered by TIn Arts, which has been supported by The Children's Foundation. The Clown Doctors, who visit children in local hospitals and entertain, support and empower them through storytelling, play, music and clowning were found to be so successful in engaging children, that TIN Arts and The Children's Foundation have developed the medium of clowning to engage children about health messages.
'Only Fools Smoke' will see the Clowns going into primary schools accross the region to deliver messages about smoking to children and getting them involved in finding solutions to stop people smoking or avoiding starting in the first place. The Children's Foundation needs to raise funds to kick start the project but has been lucky enough to attract donations from the William Leech Charity and Sanofi-aventis.
